A SALON manager has been shortlisted for a hairdressing award.

Amanda Day, franchisee at the Contemporary salon in Darlington’s Horse Market, is a finalist in the manager of the year category at the British Hairdressing Business Awards.

The awards recognise the individuals and teams who work tirelessly to raise the profile and professionalism of the industry.

Ms Day took on the franchise in 2011 after being made redundant from her career as a finance manager.

She submitted a detailed portfolio of her achievements to date, and will now undergo a face-to-face interview with a panel of hairdressing’s most respected names before the outcome is revealed at a black tie ceremony in London this September.

"I am delighted to have been shortlisted for this award," she said.

"I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved as a salon. The nomination is very humbling but I can’t take credit for our success – it’s down to teamwork and the continued passion that my staff bring to the salon floor every day."
