Charity choice

A SUPERMARKET is looking to choose its local charity of the year. Customers are invited to go into the Sainsbury’s store on Victoria Road in Darlington to vote at the token box at the customer service desk. The choice of charities are Darlington Mind, Darlington Association on Disability or St Teresa’s Hospice. Vote online at www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk.

Gardening club

PAUL Turner will be talking about herbs, rhubarb and chillies to members of Darlington Amateur Gardening Club at Bondgate Methodist Church lecture hall on Wednesday, June 20 at 7.15pm. There will also be plants for sale. Call 01325-468870.

Acoustic set

THE Bluetones’ singer Mark Morriss will perform an acoustic set at Avalon on Saturday, June 17. Tickets, available from skiddle.com or the Hole in the Wall pub are £6 in advance or £7.50 on the night. Doors open at 6pm.

Training hard

ROCKLIFFE Hall’s chief executive Eamonn Elliott is training hard for two new fitness challenges this summer, to raise money for two charities. The first event is the Ripon Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, July 1, which he’s doing in aid of deterMND. His next challenge takes place between August 16 and 18 when he will take part in the Wales End to End cycling challenge, raising funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
