DESPITE losing 2-1 to Darlington last night, Spennymoor Town remain on course for reaching the play-offs and Quakers boss Tommy Wright would like to see them do it.
Moors are seventh, the final play-off spot, two points ahead of Bradford PA and York City with two games in hand on each.
However, Jason Ainsley’s side have been playing catch up for a while due to suffering a number of postponements, and the form has suffered, winning only one of their last seven league games.
“I genuinely hope they turn it around,” said Wright. “They’re still in a really good position and I’m sure Jason is really happy with it, but they have had a lot of games in a short space of time.”
Moors tired in the second half last night, and were unable to find a way back into the contest after a Joe Tait own goal put Darlington ahead with an hour played.
Given that Spennymoor had played on Tuesday – a 1-1 draw with Kidderminster Harriers - Wright revealed that kicking down the Brewery Field slope in the second half had been part of Quakers’ plan.
He said: “We wanted to kick up the hill in the first half because we thought they would start to tire in the second half, and when you’re kicking up a hill psychologically it can have an impact.
“I’ve played at Tamworth when they had a slop and it does get to you, especially when you’re already feeling tired from Tuesday.”
Darlington play at home to Nuneaton Town on Saturday, while Spennymoor go to Curzon Ashton.
