THERAPEUTIC volunteers are being recruited to support dementia patients being treated in Darlington Memorial Hospital.
The County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has been piloting the scheme to give patients extra activities and new experiences in hospital by meeting new people.
Activities volunteers can carry out with patients including crafts, reading, drawing, playing games or talking and reminiscing through music, photographs and memory boxes.
All volunteers must attend a Trust corporate induction and have an informal chat to discuss the role and responsibilities, as well as undertaking specific therapeutic volunteer training.
A minimum of one hour per week is required.
