A CAMPAIGN to encourage everyone to commit to a healthy start to the new year is continuing as part of a series of events being held in Darlington town centre.

The Cornmill Shopping Centre is working in partnership with Healthy Darlington to support residents and shoppers by encouraging them to eat well and move more to ultimately live longer.

The events have been set up in a bid to improve the availability, accessibility and quality of sport and physical activity being offered and undertaken across the borough.

As part of Healthy Darlington’s campaign, the Cornmill Shopping Centre will be hosting a pop-up event between 11am to 2pm today, providing information on services available at the Dolphin Centre and Eastbourne Sports Complex.

Susan Young, centre manager at the Cornmill Centre, said: “Our centre will be supporting Healthy Darlington’s movement to get the town fit on the 19th and 27th January.

"We believe that promoting a healthy lifestyle and showcasing local health services that are accessible to all will really benefit the residents of Darlington.

"We can’t wait to start our health kick this year and wish everyone a happy and healthy 2018.”

The events will encourage shoppers to adopt a healthy lifestyle by offering the chance to win trial passes for a selection of fitness classes and entry to the gym.

Healthy Darlington will also provide Tanita scales at the Cornmill on Saturday, January 27.

The scales are able to provide users with sophisticated body composition measurements with an accurate reading in under 20 seconds.
