A DRIVER was seriously injured when she lost control of her car and crashed into a tree.

The driver, 51, who was the only person in the car, struck the tree off the A66 in Darlington.

The crash happened at around 10.40am on Saturday, January 13, close to Morton Palms.

The driver of the Chevrolet Aveo, a Darlington woman, suffered serious injuries including fractured ribs, a fractured sternum, fractured knee and concussion.

No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the crash, which also left the driver’s car severely damaged.

Sergeant Jonathan Morgan, of Durham Police’s Road Policing Unit, said: “The vehicle has been travelling on the A66 when, for an unknown reason, it has started to swerve.

“It has then left the carriageway to its offside, colliding with a tree.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward and are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage.
