PLANS to build almost 60 executive homes on a former golf course are due to be considered tomorrow.

Darlington Borough Council's planning committee is recommended to approve the plan on the 9.9 hectares site of what was Blackwell Golf Course.

The council-owned site was included in the borough's Local Plan in 2014 and 2015 which culminated in the production of a Development Brief for the site.

The proposal involves the redevelopment of the site for residential purposes comprising 59 four and five bedroom dwellings with large gardens and parking provision for each unit.

Applicant Story Homes has submitted amended plans in an attempt to appease objectors living close to the site off Carmel Road South.

During the consultation process a number of residents concerns about the proximity of some of the homes on the development to other properties already built around the proposed site.

Among the complaints were concerns about the development causing traffic congestion on one of the main roads leading in and out of town as well as the risk of flooding and pressure on school places.

Ward councillor Heather Scott has opposed the scheme.

She wrote: "The original brief agreed by the residents group was for 55 dwellings which has now been increased to 59 and the extra dwellings have all been concentrated behind Blackwell Grove which is a cul-de-sac of bungalows."

  • The application will be discussed at a meeting at 1.30pm on Wednesday, December 13 in the town hall.
