SHOPPERS heading into Darlington can take advantage of festive parking charges.

The offer, which runs until Tuesday, January 2, means people can stay longer and save money in selected council-run car parks.

A “three hours for the price of two” offer will apply in the following car parks: Abbotts Yard, Archer Street, Commercial Street East and West, Feethams Multi Storey, Hird St, Kendrew Street East and West, Park Place East and West, St Hilda’s, Winston North and South.

In addition, parking is available for £2 for a full day in East Street car park. Offers do not apply to on-street pay and display bays.

Residents can also take advantage of special bus ticket offers from Arriva with two unlimited travel tickets around the town for £5. Those coming in from further afield can get two Darlington District tickets for £8.50.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for transport and leisure, said: “Christmas is always a strain on the family budget and these parking offers will help make money stretch even further. They are a great incentive to stay longer in Darlington, explore the shops and perhaps take time out to grab a bite to eat and relax.

"Our offers coincide with the big lights switch on and late night shopping, making it even easier to get into Darlington and enjoy what’s on offer.

“With its great range of independent shops, indoor market and national retailers, Darlington is a great place to shop.”
