CHANCELLOR Philip Hammond's Budget got a thumbs down from residents at Hammond Drive in Darlington, who urged him to put more money into the NHS.
Resident Andrew Sharples, 35, said: “I think Philip Hammond did a lot of what the majority in the UK want, but I don’t think he addressed the real issues. He could have done a better job putting money into the NHS.”
Commenting on the changes announced to Universal Credit and the scrapping of stamp duty for most first time buyers, one resident said: “I’m happy people don’t have to wait as long for Universal Credit and that they’ve stopped stamp duty on first time buyers’ homes but, I think Philip Hammond should have put more budget into the NHS.
"It (the money he has pledged) should go on paying nurses more.”
Another resident was unhappy at the £3bn Brexit contingency fund, saying: “I know the government are putting a lot of money towards it but we were meant to save money by leaving the EU, so are we really saving anything?”
