A PRIMARY school pupil has been revealed as the overall winner of a Christmas card competition that attracted more than 700 entries.

Ten-year-old Maddi Dinsdale, a Year 6 student at Whinfield Primary School, in Darlington, designed this year’s winning creation in a contest organised for youngsters by Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner (PCVC) for County Durham and Darlington, Ron Hogg.

Mr Hogg said: “With so many excellent entries it was hard to pick a winner, but Maddi’s design captured this year’s theme of ‘Staying Safe on Winter Nights’ perfectly.

“It really showed that she had thought about the environment and how to stay safe.”

Mr Hogg decided to use Maddi’s winning design as the picture on his official PCVC Christmas card and surprised her with a medal, certificate, gift voucher and a pack of Christmas cards printed with her design, during a school assembly.
