ALMOST 100 awards have been presented during a school’s annual celebration of achievement.

The “Evening To Celebrate Achievement” was staged at Hurworth School, Hurworth, near Darlington, in front of an audience of proud parents.

It comes in the wake of the school’s outstanding examination results in which 81 per cent of pupils achieved five or more GCSEs, including English and Maths.

Head teacher Dean Judson said: “They are an incredibly strong set of results, not just in the context of Darlington, but across the North-East.

“The Evening To Celebrate Achievement backed up those results by underlining the amazing diversity of talent we have in the school.

“It is not just about the excellent academic achievement at Hurworth – we are also proud of the way the pupils feel about the caring nature of the school. Not only do they leave with excellent qualifications but excellent experiences and an appetite for lifelong learning.”

Entertainment was provided by pupil Nevaeh Dodgson and guest speaker at the event was former editor of The Northern Echo Peter Barron.
