A TEAM of brain-box Rotarians have been crowned regional quiz kings after outsmarting a team from Northumberland.

The Rotary Club of Darlington's team of Steve Rose, Marie Green, David Heaton and Fred Johnson, came out victorious when they took on Seahouses in the final of the Rotary District 1030 Quiz.

A total of 96 Rotary teams compete in the North and South zone competitions and then the winners of each zone face each other in the District Final.

Last week's victory was the club's third regional success in the last eight years.

A club spokesman said: "Darlington had poor first and second rounds, before finally getting into their stride and went on to win 41 to Seahouses 38.

"It was especially fitting, as the captain of the Darlington ‘A’ team, Steve Rose was stepping down after eight years in the role. During his captaincy they have won the South Zone final seven times and the District champions on three occasions."
