A MICHELIN starred restaurant in the region has come in the top 50 eateries in the country, according to the Good Food Guide.
The Raby Hunt, near Darlington, which has recently undergone a £400,000 revamp, came in at number 37.
Run by James Close, the venue has seen the kitchen extended and redeveloped, the building of a new restaurant entrance, and the installation of glass walls so diners can watch the Michelin-starred chef and his team at work preparing their food.
At the head of the table in the guide is Cornish fish restaurant Nathan Outlaw – named after its founder – which replaced Cumbria's L'Enclume at the number one spot.
Good Food Guide editor Elizabeth Carter said: "Nathan Outlaw's food is characterised by the absolute freshness of ingredients and a clear sense of purpose."
Other restaurants to make the list include Leeds' Vice and Virtue in a former strip club, The Marram Grass Cafe, founded on an Anglesey caravan site, and Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck.
