AN annual charity day has been held at a Darlington golf club.

The Rotary Club of Darlington’s recent annual AM-AM Golf Tournament saw a record 36 teams compete at Blackwell Golf Club for charity.

The event, now in its 22nd year, saw more than £5,000 raised for a number of charities in the town.

The team who were crowned winners of Eaglescliffe plus one, which was made up of David and John Reach, Keith Simpson and John Himsworth.

Meanwhile, the ladies were represented by the ‘Blackwell Belles’ team who have entered the event every year since the competition began.

The team finished fourth, which is the highest any ladies team has ever come since the event started.

The Darlington Play Service will receive 80 per cent of the funds raised and the remaining 20 per cent will go to supporting other local charities.

Derek Alderson, leader of the organising team, said: "The final amount raised has yet to be confirmed, but it hoped that it will be around £5,000.

"The planning is already in hand for next year's competition," he added.

Next year's charity golf day will take place on July 12, 2018.
