POLICE launched a murder investigation after a man was found in a Darlington Street.

Two men were arrested by armed officers after the 34-year-old victim was found by a member of the public in Geneva Road at just after 4am this morning.

He died after being taken to hospital.

The man is understood to have been stabbed.

A large area of Geneva Road remained cordoned off while officers worked at the scene. Nearby Pensbury Street was also a focus of enquiries.

A spokesman for Durham Police said: "A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found in a street.

"A member of the public came across the 34-year-old in Geneva Road near Fenby Avenue, Darlington at approximately 4.10am today.

"They took him to Darlington Memorial Hospital where, despite emergency intervention, he died.

"Two men were later arrested for murder by armed officers.

"A police presence will remain in the Geneva Road and Pensbury Street areas of the town as enquiries continue.

"No further other suspects are being sought at this time and police can confirm that all parties are known to each other."
