BUSINESSES are offering discounts to volunteers who are involved in Kynren and Auckland Castle.

Volunteers Charlie Scott King and Councillor Joy Allen visited a number of establishments to secure a range of offers at everywhere from shops to hotels and cafes.

The participating business are mainly in Bishop Auckland but there are some in Wynyard, Darlington and Durham.

Mrs Scott King said “The scheme was to build upon the name and essence of Kynren- a legacy of friendship and family. It was to interlink and bring together the Kynren community with local business and work together to create a symbiotic relationship.”

Cllr Allen said: “This discount scheme is a fantastic local initiative which recognises the value of local volunteers who are happy to give up some of their valuable time to put Bishop Auckland on the map.

"Volunteers range from five to 80-years-old so there are range of offers that will appeal to everyone from discounts on meals out to accommodation to garden centres, and children’s afternoon teas."
