TIME is running out to Race for Life in Darlington as event organisers urge more residents to join the 1,200 women already signed up to the fundraiser.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life calls on mothers, daughters, sisters and friends to show their support for the charity in the life-saving 5k event.

Participants joining the cause this year will meet in South Park on Sunday, June 4, to walk, jog or run the course in aid of boosting charity funds.

Race entry will remain open to would-be female fundraisers until Thursday, June 1, and organisers hope that hundreds more women will join the 5k.

Frances Kippax-Geary, event manager for Race for Life in Darlington, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that 1,200 women have entered Darlington’s Race for Life.

“But we still need more women to come forward, sign up and help beat cancer sooner.

“So we’re urging anyone who has been thinking about taking part to join the fight and sign up today.

“Everyone is welcome and it’s still not too late to enter.

“This is a call-out to remind the women of Darlington just how important their participation and contribution is.”

Millions of pounds are raised annually through Cancer Research UK’s women-only series of 5k, 10k, and marathon and hiking events.

Ms Kippax-Geary added: “We’re sending out a rallying cry to Darlington women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes to sign up right now and stand united in the fight against cancer.”
