A 21-year-old Darlington man has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of making threats to kill following a rape in the town earlier this week.
A 38-year-old woman was attacked on a grassed embankment off St Augustine’s Way - just behind the Halfords store - shortly after midnight on Wednesday, May 17.
The woman, who had been walking home from a pub, was punched in the face before being attacked. She was later treated in hospital.
The man is due before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning.
