A HELPLINE has been launched to offer Darlington residents advice and support on a variety of issues.

The telephone advice line will see trained advisors provide guidance on matters including finance management, debt, housing, benefits and employment.

It will be launched by Citizens Advice Darlington on Tuesday, May 2 and will operate from 10am until 2pm Monday to Friday and until 6pm on a Wednesday.

Those calling 0300 3301195 will have their needs assessed over the phone to ensure appropriate information, support and signposting can be given.

CEO Neeraj Sharma believes the launch of the helpline will enable CAD to extend its support network.

Mr Sharma said: “We help over 10,000 people a year and with the launch of the advice line, that number is set to grow further.”

To meet an increase in demand for debt advice, CAD has also introduced email support with debt caseworkers. Anyone behind with payments can email their name and contact details to debtappointment@darlingtoncab.co.uk.

To help them provide the extra services, the organisation is now appealing for more volunteers to join their team.

Roles available include administrators, receptionist, telephone and face-to-face assessors, marketing and fundraising volunteers and those willing to help with policy and campaigning.

Volunteers are also needed to help in the running of the Growing Older and Living in Darlington (GOLD) initiative.
