BUSINESSES have lent their support to dedicated volunteers working to enhance popular parkland.

The Friends of the Denes meet twice a month to undertake maintenance and restoration work at the 23 acre site in the heart of Darlington.

They recently received equipment from local firm ELG Planning to help them in their work caring for 1,000 trees, removing shrubs and enhancing the habitat along Cocker Beck, which runs through the area.

David Boulton, Director at ELG Planning, said: “The Denes is an important local resource used by young families, school groups and walkers alike and part of what makes Darlington such a pleasant place to live.

“It deserves to be looked after and we are proud to help where we can.”

The equipment was sourced from Sam Turners garden centre, who have also supported the Friends by donating prizes for their community events.
