TWO pupils have steered their way to success by winning a competition covering the north of England.
Hurworth School’s Dominic Hancock, 15, and Lewis Collin, 14, were the winners in the North and North-East of England Science and Technology Challenge Final, staged at the University of Sheffield.
The boys teamed up with Sara Morley and Anna Bulloch from Tyneside’s Seaton Burn College to win the contest which involved programming a robotic car to steer it round a course using a sensor.
Dominic, who lives in Darlington, and Lewis, of Croft-on-Tees, had already won the Teesside heat of the competition last September.
Hurworth’s head of design and technology, Jamie Smith, who took the pupils to Sheffield for the competition, said: “They were up against 15 strong teams from around the country, facing a pretty daunting challenge, and they came through it superbly.”
