DARLINGTON-based indie band Apex have raised £300 to support the work of St Teresa’s Hospice.

The group recorded a cover of ‘Last Christmas’, originally a hit for 80s stars Wham, which they released as a charity single in aid of the charity late last year.

The band decided to give away all proceeds from online downloads and CD sales to a charity, and the charity was a cause close to their hearts.

Band member Dan Martin said: “When we chose to record the cover of ‘Last Christmas’ we knew we wanted to do something that would benefit the community, and I knew someone who was cared for by St Teresa’s Hospice so it felt right to do something for this important local charity”.

The single was launched with a special one-off gig event at The Forum in Darlington, with all proceeds from the concert being donated to the Hospice.

The band also raised the roof at the hospice’s annual Christmas Cracker concert, receiving a standing ovation after leading the crowd in a sing-along to the popular track.
