A DARLINGTON man will appear in court over the collapse of a pedestrian bridge over a motorway during on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Kent Police were alerted on Saturday, August 27 to a report that a bridge had collapsed between junctions four and three on the London-bound carriageway of the M20.
A 63-year-old man from Darlington has been issued with a summons to appear before Maidstone Magistrates' Court on February 17.
He has been charged with dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and three counts of criminal damage, Kent Police said.
Following the bridge collapse, a motorcyclist in his 70s was taken to hospital with suspected broken ribs and the motorway was closed between junctions 1 and 4, leading to severe traffic disruption on the main route to the Channel Tunnel.
