A WOMAN is believed to be on the run following a stabbing at a house in Darlington.

Police are hunting for the attacker who left a 46-year-old bleeding from serious stab wounds at a property on Salisbury Terrace, in the Denes area of the town.

Officers from Durham Constabulary staged an overnight raid at the house, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Alerted to reports of man being injured, emergency services found the victim in a serious condition at around 11pm on Tuesday night.

At around 12.15am, four armed police officers with heavy weapons and bullet proof shields, along with a dog unit, were seen entering the house.
Police vehicles lined the narrow street for hours, with witnesses reporting the presence of a police helicopter overhead.

After a comprehensive search of the house had been carried out, the armed officers left the scene, but one police unit remained overnight until 8.30am this morning.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon, a spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “Police enquiries are underway to trace the person responsible.

“A crime scene investigation of the property will be taking place for much of the day.

“It’s understood both parties involved in the incident were known to each other.”

The victim was taken to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He is said to be in a stable condition.

A man living close to the scene said he had been shocked to learn of what had happened to his neighbour, following a night of heavy police activity on his street.

He said: “I am just shocked about the whole thing, I didn’t expect it to turn out to be a stabbing.

“I am not used to having stabbing incidents so close to home.
“When it’s just doors down from myself, it makes you think of how quickly these things can happen.

“I really hope that the injured party makes a full recovery and that the police catch whoever is responsible.”

At the time of going to print, no arrests had been made.
