A DARLINGTON band’s take on a Wham Christmas classic will be used to help a hospice.

Indie act Apex will launch their take on 80s hit 'Last Christmas' at a gig taking place on Tuesday, December 13.

Sales of their festive single will be used to raise money in support of St Teresa’s Hospice while proceeds from their launch party at The Forum in Darlington will also be donated to the charity.

Band member Dan Martin said: “When we chose to record the cover of Last Christmas, we knew we wanted to do something that would benefit the community.

“I knew someone who was cared for by St Teresa’s Hospice so it felt right to do something for this important local charity.”

The single is the first to have been recorded in aid of St Teresa’s and the band have now been invited to play at the hospice’s annual Christmas Cracker concert on Saturday, December 17.

Hospice director Jane Bradshaw said: “We are fortunate to be supported by many organisations throughout the communities we serve.

“We’re delighted that for the first time ever a charity single is being released in aid of the hospice.

“Music is an important part of our fundraising at Christmas and I am looking forward to seeing Apex perform at our fabulous concert.”

  • The track will be available to purchase on Amazon, Google Play and iTunes. Around 69p from every sale will be donated to St Teresa’s Hospice.
