A FAMILY talent passed down through the generations is set to provide charitable aid to those in need both at home and overseas.

Darlington man and naval architect by trade, Dhananjay Kelkar, inherited his passion for painting from his late father and renowned artist, Madhusudan Kelkar.

For four decades, Mr Kelkar has exhibited his work in both India and the UK, with his latest works being showcased in a special Art of Giving exhibition, in Darlington’s Crown Street Library.

More than 30 paintings feature in the display with the sale and proceeds from the exhibition being donated to the town’s St Teresa’s Hospice and two Indian charities which provide free healthcare and education in rural areas.

Mr Kelkar said: “I have spent a long time in the corporate world in different countries. However, an insight into the world of voluntary work across the world is simply a humbling experience.

“Art of Giving is just a small gesture of appreciation of the selfless dedication of many.”
