KEEN Darlington FC fans are being warned to stay away from their future home after putting themselves at risk by visiting a building site.

An “urgent” appeal was issued via the team’s website and social media pages after a number of incidents were reported of supporters entering the Blackwell Meadows area.

The Quakers are expected to make the move back home in December when work at the Darlington site is complete, however, fans have been warned over the dangers of trespassing.

A Darlington FC spokesman said: “For safety reasons, Darlington Football Club would now urge supporters not to visit Blackwell Meadows.

“There have been several instances this week of Darlington FC fans entering the building site without permission, and putting themselves, and those working on the site, at risk.

“We appreciate the growing sense of anticipation amongst Darlington FC fans of the move to Blackwell Meadows, but that is far outweighed by safety considerations.

“The contractors and the rugby club have in turn asked the football club to request fans not to come to Blackwell Meadows for safety reasons, and we have wholeheartedly agreed with that request.”

The plea comes less than 24 hours after supporters raised £8,000 in just nine days to fund dugouts for Blackwell Meadows.
