DARLINGTON'S Victorian splendour was celebrated during a day long event marking the development of one of the town's railway stations.
The spirit of the era was revived for a Grand Day Out at the Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum.
Visitors to the museum enjoyed a variety of Victorian-themed activities on Sunday.
The event celebrated 1842, when the former North Road Station was built to serve the Stockton and Darlington railway line.
Sarah Goldsbrough, acting manager of the museum, said: "We have had a really good day with more than 500 people coming into the museum on the morning alone. We have had teams of volunteers in helping us as well which has been a massive help."
The programme of activities included mini-train rides, face painting and Victorian arts and crafts.
Families could also enjoy a Punch and Judy Show, a Flea Circus and balloon modelling before exploring a themed trail around the museum.
Next weekend, Saturday, October 1 and Sunday 2, visitors will be able to take part in the Big Draw event at the museum.
