RESIDENTS from a retirement village took part in their very own Olympic Games to commemorate this year’s event.
The Rio-themed games took part over two weeks at Middleton Hall Retirement Village, near Darlington where residents competed for their very own medals.
They took part in Samba-style aqua and exercise classes, Olympic rings throw, shot putt, orienteering challenge and two Olympic themed sports days.
It was brought to a conclusion with a medal ceremony where there was even a podium for the winners.
Other activities included an Olympic quiz, a Rio-style afternoon tea fiesta and a competition to name the Middleton Hall Mascot.
A spokesperson for Middleton Hall said the activities were designed so there was something for everyone to take part in.
She said: “The objective was to try some new activities and have a chance to enjoy some old favourites. We wanted to challenge everyone.
“The residents achieved an impressive medal tally just like Team GB and there was a lot of laughter and a definite sense of mission accomplished as everyone took to the podium to collect their medals.’’
