A SHADOW cabinet minister will visit Darlington in a bid to drum up support for Jeremy Corbyn ahead of the Labour leadership election.

MP Grahame Morris, the shadow secretary of state for communities and local government, will speak at an event organised by the Darlington branch of the Jeremy for Labour campaign group.

On Thursday, August 25, Mr Morris will speak in support of Mr Corbyn at St Augustine’s Parish Centre.

He will share his experiences of working alongside Mr Corbyn and will take questions from the floor.

The MP will be joined by junior doctor and NHS campaigner Dr Pete Campbell as well as Darlington Labour Party’s youth officer Sharifah Khan.

A representative from the grassroots campaign group claimed Labour membership in Darlington had grown significantly under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

Campaign volunteer Andrew Dowson said: “Under Jeremy’s leadership, the Labour Party has grown massively and is now the largest party in Europe.

“He gives people hope and inspires them to get involved in politics.

“There is huge potential for us to create a fairer, more equal and more decent society.

“First we need to ensure Jeremy continues to lead the Labour Party so he can then go on to lead a Labour Government that will deliver the substantial changes our country needs.”

He added: “We’re particularly pleased that Grahame has made time to come to Darlington and we look forward to welcoming him here.”

The event will take place from 7.30pm.
