HOMELESS hounds have welcomed a keen dog lover to a North-East rehoming centre after a Lord Mayor pledged her support for the charity.
Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Hazel Stephenson, paid a visit to Dogs Trust Darlington yesterday (August 17) after announcing the Sadberge-based site would be her charity of the year.
Four-year-old greyhound, Joe, greeted Cllr Stephenson and centre manager, Sue Embleton, who was keen to thank the councillor on behalf of staff and volunteers.
Ms Embleton said: “We are very grateful for the Lord Mayor’s support and today’s visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the important work going on at the rehoming centre.
“We are looking forward to working with Cllr Stephenson to further explore ways of building awareness and funds on behalf of the dogs we care for and the wider work of Dogs Trust.”
