SCOUTS need a superhero or two to help them through their paces.

Staindrop Scouts are appealing for two assistant scout leaders to come on board in time for autumn.

The troop, based near Darlington, will lose the valuable support of two assistant leaders when one gets married and the other moves away to do a masters degree later this year.

To bridge the gap, the Staindrop Scouts are hoping to train two volunteers ahead of their autumn meetings.

A statement issued on behalf of the group said: “Perks include a lovely beige uniform shirt and weekends away from the TV.

“The free training crosses over into work life and includes first aid, safeguarding, health and safety, risk assessment and lots more if you’d like to go for full warrant.”

Those wishing to develop further can also get involved with adventurous activities training.

No qualifications are needed, but a “good sense of humour, a love of the outdoors and the environment” is a bonus, according to Scout leader Jacqui Nicholson.

Anyone interested in applying to become an assistant scout leader should contact Ms Nicholson as soon as possible by calling 07834 370780 or emailing staindropscouts@gmail.com.

The group meet on Monday evenings and are currently based at the Pauline Charlton Pavilion in Cockfield.

They will move to their new Scout hut in Staindrop in November.

A job share role would be considered if applicants are unable to commit to weekly meetings.
