A WOMEN’S group established to boost fitness in Darlington is up and running.
Sisters R Doing It was set up earlier this year to encourage women and girls to take up a new hobby.
Over a ten week course, members are encouraged to build on their abilities before completing a final, three-mile run around the town.
Wendy Thompson, 45, said: “I was nervous at my first meeting as I knew I couldn’t run for 100m let alone for an hour.
“At the end of that session, we had run or walked a mile and I left crying tears of happiness.
“I thought I couldn’t do it and was so proud I could keep up.
“I can’t believe what I’ve achieved over ten weeks – I lost a stone and could honestly say I was a runner.”
