AN ANNUAL celebration centring on an iconic feature of Darlington’s South Park has seen hundreds of families enjoy a summer prom.
The returning Proms in the Park performance proved a popular Sunday afternoon treat this weekend (June 26) with the famous bandstand playing a fitting host to a range of musicians.
Revellers pitched up chairs and picnics in the park before enjoying performances from The Royal Signals Northern Band, in honour of Armed Forces Day.
Umbrellas proved a necessary addition to the afternoon, but the rain was not enough to dampen the spirits of Darlington’s prommers.
The Royal Air Force Honington Voluntary Band, 102 Battalion Reme Pipes & Drums, Central & East Yorks Wing ATC Sector 1 Band and vocalist Val MacConachie also supported the show.
Jake Tompkins, of Prom sponsors Modus Seabed Intervention, said: “It’s great to see that Proms in the Park, marking Armed Forces Day, has now become an annual fixture in Darlington’s calendar.”
