THE FUNDRAISING efforts of a Darlington woman could see her named Miss Great Britain.

Earlier this year, Robyn Lucas raised almost £4,000 for the Butterwick Hospice as part of her bid to become Miss Durham GB.

At the regional heats of the Miss Great Britain competition, she narrowly missed out on the Miss Durham title but was named Miss Charity.

Fitness instructor Ms Lucas, 24, has now been selected as a ‘wildcard’ choice and will go onto compete for the Miss Great Britain crown.

She will represent the North-East along with Miss Durham, Taylor Hamilton, Miss Teesside, Sarah Gething, Miss Sunderland Lucy Hough and Miss Newcastle, Coral Patrick.

Ms Lucas, from Cockerton, said: “I was sceptical at first to go into a pageant, because of the stereotypes you associate pageants with.

“But it has been amazing to be able to help people through fundraising for the hospice and the passion I get from it is remarkable and rewarding.

“I really appreciate and am really excited that I have been selected to go forth and take part in Miss Great Britain and carry on making a difference.

“It’s also another excuse to hang up my lived-in gym clothes and put a lovely frock on.”
