POLICE partially closed a main road into Darlington after a lorry became wedged under a railway bridge.

The incident occured at around 11.15am at the bridge outside Darlington railway station on Yarm Road.

Police directed a single lane of traffic around the lorry but the incident still caused major disruption on Yarm Road and the town's ring road.

The articulated lorry with Stiller on the trailer had been trying to head into the town when it became wedged under the bridge.

East Coast Mainline services were suspended and although a National Rail spokesman estimated that the disruption would continue until around 2.30pm, the lorry was actually reversed out from under the bridge at 11.45am.
