POLICE in Darlington have warned motorists to lock their vehicles after a foot pursuit ended with two men being arrested on suspicion of theft from a vehicle.

The pair, aged 21 and 23 years old, allegedly broke into two cars parked in the Park East area of town on Saturday, April 30.

Both suspects were seen running form the scene and police were forced to give chase through gardens and private land in the area to catch up with the young men.

The incident has led the police to urge motorists to ensure their vehicles are secure before leaving them unattended to guard against an increase of car-related crime in Darlington.

One of the alleged thieves will also face a charge of criminal damage when the pair are expected to appear in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 16.
