LITERATURE and lattes will boost funds for a Darlington charity working to help Syrian refugees.

Darlington Quakers are inviting the town’s residents to join them in a mini-festival of the spoken word this Monday (May 2).

The organisation is holding its Lit and Latte event in aid of Darlington Assistance for Refugees (DAR).

It will feature a second-hand book shop, refreshments and performances by creative writing group the Inkerman Writers.

Visitors will also be invited to look around the historic venue, The Friends Meeting House on Skinnergate.

All proceeds will go to DAR, a group established to help refugees coming to Darlington and those living in camps across the world.

Robin Drummond, manager of the Friends Meeting House, said the Quakers were doing what they could to support the organisation.

She said: “We are particularly concerned about the refugee crisis and are offering a lot of support to DAR.

“Quite a few of their volunteers are our members and we wanted to show support in whatever way we could.”

The event will take place from 1pm until 5pm.
