A WOMAN was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters after a road accident on Sunday evening.
Crews from Darlington and Newton Aycliffe, along with the special rescue unit from Bishop Auckland, attended the two-car collision on the A68 at Houghton Bank, Heighington, betweem Darlington and West Auckland.
One woman was rescued by firefighters using cutting equipment while another woman managed to get out unaided.
The road was closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene.
