THE Sport Relief Mile is back – and it’s coming to Darlington’s beautiful South Park.

The town is set to host its fifth Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday, March 20, and entries are now open.

Training sessions are on offer for those who would like to take part and are looking for advice and motivation to give it a go.

Starting on February 24, training sessions with qualified coaches from Healthy Darlington's 'Move More' team will be held at Eastbourne Sports Complex.

Training sessions are held on Wednesday evenings, from 6.30pm and 7.15pm, continuing for four weeks.

Training costs £1 per session. All proceeds will go to Sport Relief.

Councillor Andy Scott, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for health and partnerships, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in South Park is here again and it’s your time to walk or run yourself proud.

"From little ones with their mums and dads, to runners up against the clock there’s something for everyone to make themselves feel proud.

“Sport Relief is back from March 18 to 20 and there are more ways than ever for you to take part, change lives and feel proud.

"Whether you get sponsored to enter an event at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games or fundraise with friends and family at home, work or school, you’ll help people living incredibly tough lives.

"Half the money raised by the public is spent in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities.”

Bands will be playing around the park for participants to enjoy while taking in the scenic views and many more attractions will there on the day; including face-painting and a warm-up session, courtesy of Fit Lab, to get people motivated.

Employees from the Darlington branch of Sainsbury's will be volunteering on the day,
