A REVITALISED pub is pledging a helping hand to the community by adding a charitable option to the menu.

The White Horse, owned by the Sizzling Pubs chain, reopened its doors in late January after a full refurbishment which created five new jobs.

And the freshly decorated pub has announced its commitment to North-East charities by making donations every three months to two nominated charity groups.

St Teresa’s Hospice and Sadberge-based Dogs Trust Darlington currently receive contributions from the White Horse, on Burtree Lane, alongside the Sizzling Pub’s Charity of the Year, Cancer Research UK.

Guests dining at the pub will be given a token with each meal to put in a jar to show support for their preferred charity.

White Horse general manager, Catherine Blakey, said: “The pub has been given a fantastic new look and brand new menu encompassing all your traditional pub favourites, from the UK and around the world.

“And we’re thrilled to be able to give back to the local community by supporting two local charities.

“We’re calling on the people of County Durham to vote for worthy causes in the area and would encourage anyone who works for a local charity to get in touch.

“We feel that the White Horse in an integral part of the community and a great place for family and friends, so we’re delighted to be able to give back to the people who need it most.”

The charity nomination scheme was brought to the White Horse after a significant investment by the Sizzling Pubs chain.

And the family-friendly pub is on the hunt for more nominations of regional charities and suggestions can be made by adding ideas to the White Horse’s voting box.
