AN entrepreneurial pair have set up shop in Darlington after leaving their day jobs to start their own business.

And Katy Turner, from Darlington, and her business partner, Nicola Bulch, are urging others to become their own boss by joining their costume jewellery sales team.

Their business, NK Rocks, is the UK arm of American franchise, Park Lane, which has been established in the States since the 1950s.

Former account manager, Mrs Turner, said: “We’re hoping to create a lot of self-employment opportunities in Darlington and although we’re just starting up, we’ve already had a lot of interest.

“With so few jobs around it’s a great opportunity to have some money coming in, or even extra money, for things like family holidays, savings or to pay off the mortgage quicker.

“We’re basing the business in Darlington and we’ll be doing some launch events in the future so anyone interested can get involved.

"We’re all about having fun too as the jewellery will be sold at parties, so friends and family can get together over a few nibbles and purchase beautiful jewellery, there's also amazing offers, which makes the jewellery very affordable.

"We want to create a better work life balance and this is definitely becoming the new ‘nine ‘til five’ career, as the people that join us will be running their own business and can choose the hours they wish to work."

The business partners swapped their old jobs for the fashion director roles after building up over 30 years of sales and marketing experience between them and they hope the Avon-style jobs will prove popular.

NK Rocks is due to open in Stanhope Road soon and those interested in joining the team can attend an event at Bowburn Hall Hotel, in Durham, on Thursday, January 28, from 7pm.
