A RETIRING marketing manager has been rewarded for his dedication to grass roots cricket.
David Copland, retiring general manager of marketing and communications at Darlington Building Society, was honoured at the recent NYSD Cricket Awards 2015.
He was inducted into the NYSD ECB Premier Cricket League Hall of Fame, uniquely becoming the first non-cricketer to be recognised in this way.
A staunch supporter of grass roots sport for many years, Mr Copland has been instrumental in the 25-year partnership between the Society and the NYSD Premier Cricket League.
Chris West, NYSD League President said: “David has been a wonderful supporter of the NYSD Cricket League, having been closely involved in our partnership for the vast majority of our 25-year relationship, and there are many communities, numerous clubs, several thousand cricketers and, indeed, the whole family of cricket in the region who have cause to thank him personally, as well as DBS, for its marvellous support of a wonderful game that benefits so many.”
Mr Copland said: “Receiving this award was an enormous surprise and completely unexpected."
He added: "When I consider the achievements and dedication of the other Hall of Fame inductees I feel very humble and underserving.
"This award is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.”
