PRIMARY school pupils had a royally good time as they swapped their daily bus or car trip for a history-themed walk to school.
Students from St Augustine’s RC Primary School in Darlington had two royal themed walks to school led by John de Lacy, Lord of Pontefract Castle - played by Dave Eliot of the theatre company Histrionics - along with members of Team Local Motion and Darlington police.
The walks, on Wednesday, November 25, started from Millbank Road and Parkside and characters such as King Richard the Lionheart, Queen Victoria, Cleopatra, The Queen of Hearts and Elvis took part.
They were in celebration of winning the MEGA Motion 2014-15 School of the year, which encourages families to get active on everyday journeys.
Upon arriving at the school pupils also took part in a history themed assembly and acting workshops.
Head of school, Martina McCollom said: “Children and parents really try to support healthy and sustainable travel and we look forward to taking part in lots of activities again this school year.”
