AN ARMY of superheroes powered their way to a charity fundraising total that their families could only marvel at.

The heroes of Hurworth Primary School competed in a fun run dressed as their favourite comic book characters.

Hundreds of pupils from every class took part in the event as part of a St Teresa’s Hospice’s campaign.

Hospice Heroes even saw the school’s youngest pupils complete a whole lap of the playing field, while older children ran lap after lap in aid of the Darlington charity.

The children were sponsored by family and friends and the £1,473 raised will go towards helping St Teresa’s Hospice continue to provide vital services across the community.

The Hurworth Primary School student council chose to support the hospice as their summer charity this year and have been working hard raising money and awareness by organising thrift sales, filling Smarties tubes with coins and by organising the fun run.

Hospice chief executive Jane Bradshaw said: “Their efforts were certainly super and heroic and we are absolutely thrilled by their support. It’s fantastic that they had so much fun raising essential funds for us so we can continue our vital work.”
