LANDLORDS across Darlington can find out about what the introduction of Universal Credit will mean for them at a special meeting later this month.

Darlington Borough Council’s Private Sector Housing team have organised the event to offer private landlords an opportunity to find out more about the implications and changes to be introduced by Universal Credit.

The event takes place at the Dolphin Centre’s Central Hall on October 16 from 9.45am to noon. There is no need to pre-register and refreshments will be provided.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “There are clearly implications for landlords as a result of the changes that the introduction of Universal Credit will bring and we’d urge them to join us at this event to find out more.”

Universal Credit (UC) will replace the majority of means-tested benefits and tax credits currently paid to people of working age, including Housing Benefit, Income Support and Income Related Jobseeker’s Allowance, among others.

It is being rolled out in stages, with claimants expected to be on UC by the end of 2017.
