A DARLINGTON early years education provider is to hold an open day.

Gurney Pease Academy, in Dodsworth Street, will open its doors on Tuesday, October 20.

The event will enable parents and carers of children approaching school age to visit a reception class before making a decision about their child’s primary education.

The school’s nursery and reception classes, along with The Gurney Pease Pod for two-year-olds, are inviting visitors to see learning in action and there will be the chance to speak to teachers and pupils about life at the school.

Its most recent Ofsted rating graded it as 'good'.

A host of activities will be available from 9.30am to 11.30am for potential pupils to experience. The drop-in session will be open to visitors throughout the morning.

Early years lead Jo Gartland said: “It will be a working day so parents and carers will be able to see our children in action and join in the fun.

"There are huge benefits to be gained from early years provision including developing children’s language, social skills and greater independence.”

The school can cater for 30 children in reception, 26 in nursery and 12 in The Gurney Pease Pod for families who meet eligibility criteria.

There will also be a number of paid places on offer in The Pod in the near future.
