FLYING doctors have this lunchtime been dealing with a medical emergency in the centre of Darlington.
The air ambulance landed at Darlington Cricket Club at 1.20pm after an elderly man was understood to have suffered a heart attack at the Imperial Express cafe on Northumberland Street.
He was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital in a critical condition.
Jay Steward, pilot for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) confirmed that they were attending an incident, believed to be a cardiac arrest.
A member of staff at the cafe called the emergency services after the customer became unwell.
A GNAAS spokeswoman said the man was given CPR in the restaurant before being taken to hospital.
