POLICE are appealing for two possible witnesses to arson attacks in Darlington to come forward.

Officers have confirmed they are treating fires at Darlington town hall and a Social Services Building in North Lodge, off Northgate, as arson.

A third fire at the Carmel Medical Centre, on Nunnery Lane, is also under investigation by Darlington CID and officers from the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, but the cause has yet to be determined.

The fires all broke out within four hours of each other on Sunday (August 30), starting with the North Lodge blaze at 12.20am.

Officers are appealing for two possible witnesses to the incidents to come forward.

The man and woman walked from the River Skerne area through the cut under the canopy of the town hall towards the Dolphin Centre at around 1.20am.

Anybody who can help police with their investigations is asked to call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
