A MAN has appeared before magistrates charged with 21 historic sexual offences against children.
Derek Smith, of Welbeck Avenue, Darlington, faces five charges of indecent assault, six charges of assault by touching and two charges of sexual assault.
He also faces seven charges of rape and a further charge of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
The 49-year-old did not enter a plea at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court in County Durham today (Wednesday, September 2).
Magistrates committed the case to Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday, September 2.
Mr Smith was granted unconditional bail.
